Hello world!

I have coined the term “#iconic bush” to pay tribute to a unique, special place in Mpumalanga, South Africa, where bush veld meets wild life, in particular the big five, meets community, meets culture.

This blog is about life in one of the most iconic bush velds, home to one of the most visited national parks in the Southern Hemisphere, namely the #krugernationalpark and private game reserves in the world, such as the #Sabisandgamereserve and #Manyeletigamereserve amongst others. The iconic bush is unique. It is one of the few places where you can see the #bigfive on any day with an experienced game ranger.

There is life on the private game reserves and national park.  Everyday life outside the game parks can be witnessed in the surrounding villages. These lifestyle are distinctly different, however, the interplay and tensions between them and their inevitable linkages to the local economy are of interest to me.

I started this blog to share with you my experiences of the different lifestyles, my observations about the contrasts between these and my observations about the way they feed off each other for survival.

I will be posting, weekly, some mages and information gathered through my travels to the #iconicbush and work that i do in the area, some of it, new and some of it not so new but always presented with a twist of interest.
